Conquering Emotions one Playlist at a Time: Heavy

As I listened to this song for the first time, I felt the pure and raw honesty in the lyrics, as they reflected the real impact and struggle of depression and anxiety. Then I watched the video, and I felt it even deeper. This song speaks of a struggle that so many people are faced with every single day.

This is a song by Linkin Park. The last single by the band to be released during frontman Chester Bennington’s lifetime. Bennington was overpowered by his own personal struggles, and ultimately took his own life. So it seems this song could’ve been more than just a song, it could’ve been speaking to his own reality.

Depression and anxiety don’t always have a face. The person who appears happy and all together just may be the person who feels like they are falling apart. I hope this song helps those who struggle with depression and anxiety to feel understood, and to those who don’t to understand.

If you or someone you know struggles with depression and/or anxiety please don’t fear or hesitate to ask for help, life is too precious to not.

The song is called Heavy by Linkin Park featuring Kiiara

(Please note- there is one profanity in the song)

The lyrics are here:

I don't like my mind right now
Stacking up problems that are so unnecessary
Wish that I could slow things down
I wanna let go but there's comfort in the panic
And I drive myself crazy
Thinking everything's about me
Yeah, I drive myself crazy
'Cause I can’t escape the gravity

I'm holding on
Why is everything so heavy?
Holding on
So much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy?

You say that I'm paranoid
But I'm pretty sure the world is out to get me
It's not like I make the choice
To let my mind stay so f[deleted] messy
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning 'round me just the same
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning 'round me just the same

I'm holding on
Why is everything so heavy?
Holding on
So much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy?

I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning 'round me just the same
I know I'm not the center of the universe
But you keep spinning 'round me just the same
And I drive myself crazy
Thinking everything’s about me

Holding on
Why is everything so heavy?
Holding on
So much more than I can carry
I keep dragging around what's bringing me down
If I just let go, I'd be set free
Holding on
Why is everything so heavy?
Why is everything so heavy?
Why is everything so heavy?
