Conquering Emotions One Playlist at a Time: "The Red"

Anger is our response to the unexpected things that happen out of our control. When somebody says or does something that is hurtful or offensive or when things don’t go the way we planned or expected. Anger is often the response when these things happen.

When anger hits us we feel someone else or something is to blame. If these things wouldn’t have happened I wouldn’t feel so angry right now. The things that happen out of our control are to blame for our anger.

But let’s think about what we are in control of. We are in control of the way we perceive situations. Anger occurs when we perceive the negative. I’m not saying that there will be a positive to every situation, but we can learn to perceive situations in a way that will allow us to find acceptance and flexibility.

The source of our anger lies within ourselves. We all have triggers. The things that happen that increase the feelings of anger. But when you feel triggered by something you have a choice. A choice to focus on the negative, or a choice to find coping skills and flexibility within a situation. This is not always easy to do. It takes learning the coping skills that work for you, and doing your best with each situation to use them. Using coping skills allows our anger to often stay under control. Sometimes we feel like they don’t work. Sometimes we get so angry we see red. It’s hard to focus. It’s hard to filter our words or think about our actions. Instead of being hard on ourselves about it, recognize where it went wrong, and learn from the experience.

Anger will never be something that you are completely rid of. It’s a part of who we are. But ask yourself will I be in control of my anger or will my anger be in control of me?

This song is an expression of anger, and acknowledging that this is something people struggle with every day.

The Red
LYRICS
They say freak,
When you're singled out,
The red,
Well it filters through.
So lay down,
The threat is real,
When his sight,
Goes red again.
Seeing red again,
Seeing red again.
This change,
He won't contain,
Slip away,
To clear your mind,
When asked,
Who made it show (who made it show),
The truth,
He gives into most.
So lay down,
The threat is real,
When his sight,
Goes red again.
So lay down,
The threat is real,
When his sight,
Goes red again.
So lay down,
The threat is real,
When his sight,
Goes red again.
Seeing red again!
Seeing red again!
Seeing red again!
Seeing red again!
Seeing red again!
Seeing red again!
Seeing red again!
Seeing red!
