I Am PTSD

I am PTSD

I am PTSD.

I’ve come to take your life,

one day at time.

It begins with your trauma.

First, I’ll take your sleep.

You’ll stay awake night after night

just to avoid the bad dreams.

Then your waking hours are torture too.

As the flashbacks come,

I’ll make you jump at the slightest sound.

I’ve taken your peace.

The next I take are all your friends;

I make you slowly withdraw.

You feel so alone.

And as you draw within,

I take your last support;

I take your family.

You are alone.

Alone.

It’s you and your thoughts.

And as your thoughts consume you,

you don’t even see

how I’ve taken your life.
