What Happens During the First Session?

Your first counseling session is about building a foundation. Sessions last approximately 45 minutes. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Share Your Story: You'll share what brings you to counseling and discuss your concerns.

  • Client Background Review: Your counselor will review the paperwork you completed in your portal and ask questions to better understand your background, goals, and any relevant history (e.g., mental health, medical, or family history).

  • Counselor Background Review: The counselor will also explain their therapeutic approach, areas of expertise, and what to expect from the process moving forward.

  • Discuss Treatment Goals: Together, you’ll talk about treatment goals and determine if it feels like a good fit.

You’re encouraged to ask questions at any time—this is your space.

Our Intake Process in 3 Easy Steps

Step 1

Please call the front desk at 713-466-1360 to make an initial appointment. If the client is a minor, the first session is only for the parents and guardians to discuss therapeutic goals.

Step 2

Our intake staff will guide you through the process and help match you with a counselor after discussing your concerns.

Step 3

After your initial appointment is scheduled, our intake team will send you a link to our Patient Portal where there will be paperwork for you to fill out prior to your session.
