Let’s Get to Know Each Other
Hi, I’m Mackenzie Lopez. My approach to counseling is grounded in the Adlerian belief that people are motivated by a need for belonging, connection, and purpose. I am especially passionate about working with children, adolescents, and families, and I believe early relationships and life experiences play a meaningful role in how individuals understand themselves and the world around them. Through my training and experiences, I have developed a strong interest in play therapy as a developmentally appropriate way to support children in expressing emotions, building confidence, and navigating challenges such as anxiety, trauma, and life transitions. I also enjoy supporting adolescents and adults as they work toward insight, growth, and meaningful change.
What Clients Can Expect
Clients can expect a warm, encouraging, and respectful environment where they feel valued and understood. I view therapy as a collaborative partnership and work to meet each client where they are. For children, sessions often involve play-based and expressive activities that allow them to communicate in natural and empowering ways. With adolescents and adults, sessions focus on understanding patterns, building insight, and developing practical skills. Across all ages, my goal is to help clients feel encouraged, capable, and supported as they work through concerns related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, and life transitions.
Strengths as a Therapist
I bring encouragement, consistency, and empathy into the counseling space, along with a strong appreciation for each client’s strengths and unique perspective. Adlerian theory guides me to view challenges within a social and relational context, allowing me to work collaboratively with clients and families. I value cultural awareness, curiosity, and creativity, and I strive to be flexible and responsive to developmental needs. Clients can expect me to be present, intentional, and genuinely invested in fostering growth and connection.
Ideal Client
I enjoy working with children, adolescents, parents, and adults who are seeking greater understanding of themselves and their relationships. I especially connect with families navigating parenting stress, attachment concerns, behavioral challenges, and life transitions. Adolescents and adults exploring self-esteem, purpose, identity, or emotional regulation may also find our work meaningful. Clients do not need to have all the answers—just a willingness to explore, reflect, and take steps toward positive change.
Treatment Approaches
My counseling approach is Adlerian-based, trauma-informed, and developmentally responsive. I focus on understanding each client’s lifestyle, family dynamics, and sense of belonging while highlighting strengths and encouraging growth. I integrate play therapy, sandtray, and expressive interventions to support children in developing insight, responsibility, and emotional awareness. When working with adolescents and adults, I draw from Adlerian concepts such as encouragement, social interest, and goal-directed behavior. Collaboration with parents and caregivers is an important part of my work, as strengthening family relationships supports lasting and meaningful change.
